RAID kontroler HPE SmartArray P408i-p SR Gen10

The HPE SmartArray P408i-p SR Gen10 is an enterprise RAID controller designed to deliver high-speed storage connectivity and advanced data protection. Supporting 12 Gb/s SAS and PCIe 3.0, it provides eight internal SAS lanes for connecting SAS or SATA drives, supports multiple RAID levels and mixed-mode operation (RAID and HBA simultaneously), and includes encryption for data-at-rest. The card includes 2 GB Flash-Backed Write Cache (FBWC) and is compatible with HPE ProLiant Gen10 servers and the HPE Smart Storage Battery (sold separately).

Advantages

The controller offers enterprise-class performance with 12 Gb/s SAS throughput and PCIe 3.0 host connectivity, broad RAID level support (0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60), and mixed-mode capability to run RAID and HBA modes concurrently. Built-in encryption protects data-at-rest on any attached drive, while the 2 GB FBWC improves write performance and resilience. Its internal design fits into a PCIe expansion slot in compatible HPE Gen10 servers.

Suitable for

• Enterprise servers requiring high-speed SAS connectivity (HPE ProLiant DL360, DL380, DL560 Gen10)
• Storage arrays that need advanced RAID levels and data protection
• Environments requiring mixed-mode operation (RAID + HBA) for flexibility
• Installations where hardware encryption for data-at-rest is required

How to use

Install the SmartArray P408i-p SR Gen10 into an available PCIe expansion slot on a supported HPE Gen10 server following server and HPE installation guides. Connect SAS or SATA drives to the controller using appropriate backplanes or cabling to the eight internal SAS lanes. Configure RAID arrays or enable mixed-mode (RAID and HBA) in the system BIOS or HPE Smart Storage Administrator utility. If using encryption, enable and configure data-at-rest settings per HPE documentation. For battery-backed caching, install the compatible HPE Smart Storage Battery (sold separately) if required by your configuration.

Recommendations

Use the controller in supported HPE Gen10 servers and keep firmware and HPE management tools up to date. Pair with the HPE Smart Storage Battery for optimal cache protection and follow HPE guidelines for RAID level selection based on performance and redundancy needs.
